About 180 people over 60 years participated in the second edition of Leisure and Health Walk to commemorate the International Day of the Elderly

About 180 people with more than 60 years attended on Sunday morning (29) of the second edition of Leisure and Health Walk to commemorate the International Day of Older Persons on October 1. Divided into groups monitored, seniors traveled a circuit of two kilometers, into the parking lot of the Clinics Hospital, in the central region of the state capital. The idea was to draw attention to two central themes that help in healthy aging: nutrition and physical activity.

According to the director of the Department of Geriatrics, Hospital das Clinicas, Wilson Jacob Filho, the purpose of the walk is to encourage people and create an environment conducive to physical activity. The best example was given today. Even on a rainy morning, more than two thirds of applicants came to walk. Each group of seniors participated in activities involving memory, strength, balance and speed. All groups were monitored and we who organized the event, made the circuit also to experience the experience.

Jacob pointed out that, although many people believe that very sophisticated tests or medicines are the fundamental basis for good health, the factors that actually guarantee that in older age are nutrition and physical activity. The individual who remains active is healthy enough to live well throughout his life. The third component is the socialization. This group in which many already know and others do not, they form a large pool of interests causing collaborate with one another and have the solidarity necessary for good citizenship.

The pensioner Auristela Batista Lopes, 73, regularly participates in the activities of the Multidisciplinary Group for Elderly Ambulatory (GAMIA), Hospital das Clinicas, and said he went to attend the activities to have more friends, interact and not stay home alone after being widowed. I came today to walk normally because I already do enough physical activity and I think very important. I live two hours away and do not miss the activities.
