A homeless drug addict was first admitted compulsorily in São Paulo since the beginning of the partnership of the state government with the judiciary, right in January. The partnership provides for the presence of doctors, judges and lawyers at the Reference Center of Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs (CRATOD), in the center of the capital, in order to facilitate the process of detention and compulsory drug users, especially crack.

According to the State Department of Health of São Paulo, compulsory hospitalization user TFL was determined by the Court after finding it, depending on their degree of intoxication and mental confusion, presenting risk to himself and others. T.F.L. reported to doctors do not know where the family and using crack, alcohol, solvent and cocaine daily, says a statement issued by the secretariat.

The 25-year-old, who lived on the streets for 15 years, was welcomed in the region of New Light by volunteers from Mission Bethlehem Catholic group that provides services to drug users in downtown São Paulo. After evaluating the CRATOD and the court decision, the dependent was referred for treatment at Hospital Lacan, in São Bernardo do Campo, São Paulo.

The compulsory hospitalization can be adopted in cases where the dependent lost ties with relatives and are at risk. The involuntary occurs after a request of the family, by decision of Justice. Since January, the CRATOD received 28 200 calls made 4000 visits and 906 hospitalizations and 830 volunteers.
