Militants in favor of marijuana legalization in Brazil gathered on Saturday (11), on Avenida Vieira Souto, in Ipanema, the Marijuana March. The protesters held banners calling for the decriminalization of the use and also in honor of the Jamaican singer Bob Marley, whose death has completed 32 years on Saturday.

The protesters sang songs, mainly reggae rhythm, in favor of legalizing use. They also protested against the bill (PL) 7633, which provides for involuntary hospitalization of users.

At the beginning of the march, only two lanes of the track towards Arpoador were blocked, but a third was closed to avoid accidents. The demonstration followed until Arpoador Rock. Policing was in charge of 40 officers. A man was arrested and taken to the 14th Police Precinct in Leblon, after trying to sell marijuana to a police officer who was in plainclothes.

According to the Military Police, about 2000 people were at the rally. The organization reported that the number of participants reached 10,000, equaling the mark reached last year.
