Patients who are entered in Emergency Care Units (PSUs) in the state of Rio de Janerio with suspected dengue will receive text messages on their cell phones with guidance on signs and symptoms, reinforcing the most important points of disease development.

For six consecutive days, patients with suspected dengue receive daily texts that are related to different disease evolution. The goal of the initiative is to relate the content of messages with the possible development of dengue.

The idea is to keep the patient informed about symptoms, changes in the clinical picture of dengue and the importance of care as not self-medicate and increase hydration explained the superintendent of Epidemiological Surveillance and Environmental Health Secretary, Alexander Chieppe.

Currently, 28 PSUs involved in the project, and it is expected that by the end of the first half of this year all 52 state PSUs are sending messages. So far, more than 5000 patients have received the messages, totaling about 31 000 torpedoes sent.

The PSUs that are participating in the project are Maré, Irajá, Santa Cruz, Bangu, Campo Grande I and II, Belford Roxo, Tijuca, Duque de Caxias, Ricardo de Albuquerque, Botafogo, Cabuçu, Hermes, Sarapuí, Governor's Island, Taquara Penha, Realengo, New Mill, São Gonçalo I and II, Fonseca, Itaguaí Meriti Saint John, New Delhi II, Nilópolis, Copacabana and Mosque.
