Walk Agita Mundo in Sao Paulo

The Department of Health of São Paulo promotes this Sunday, April 7, the 12th Walk Agita Mundo, on Avenida Paulista. With the theme "Physical activity without barriers", the event aims to raise awareness about the risks of inactivity and will be the starting point for those who do not practice any kind of exercise. Organizers expect 20,000 people on the walk.

The movement happens simultaneously in several countries in the Americas, Europe and Africa, and in at least 36 cities in São Paulo. The date marks the World Health Day (7), the World Day for Physical Activity and Health State Day (6).

The Agita Mundo is a program that was born in São Paulo, known originally as Agita São Paulo, and since 2002 has been adopted by the WHO (World Health Organization) as a reference for health promotion action. The WHO points sedentary behavior as responsible for the deaths of about 3.2 million people a year worldwide.

The goal of the event is to encourage participants to accumulate 30 minutes of physical activity per day (in the case of children, 60 minutes), five days a week, as guides to the World Health Organization (WHO).

"The benefits of physical activity are recognized and indicated for the prevention and treatment of various diseases. Encourage healthy habits is the first step to maintaining health days," says Secretary of Health of Sao Paulo, Giovanni Guido Cerri.

The concentration for the walk will be behind the MASP, from 8:30 am, with departure scheduled for 9:30. The route, approximately 3 km, ending in the Legislative Assembly. The 2000 first participants arriving for the walk will win a kit consisting of shirt and hydration. Activities are free and without competitive character.
