Evaluating this survival, we may, in the future, working with methods that make the quality of life is getting better over the fight against the disease, "said student Jose Tarcisio Ribeiro de Andrade, a fellow in the research project.

The researcher said that after analyzing the medical records of women diagnosed with this type of cancer, will be filled data sheets.

Among the data collected were: age at diagnosis, marital status, education, occupation, main complaint in initial symptoms, beyond the start date and end of treatment and no deaths.

"We are awaiting review by the Ethics and Research (CEP) Foundation to begin collecting data. Forecasting is that we start gathering in April, ending in June to present the final results in July this year," he said.

According to him, early diagnosis makes all the difference during treatment since women diagnosed at an early stage have a chance to heal up to 100% and five-year survival after diagnosis of the disease.

<b> Statistics </ b>

Data from the National Cancer Institute (INCA) indicate that approximately 4800 women die due to cervical cancer each year. Early diagnosis combined with cancer treatments with advanced techniques that result in a higher survival rate have helped inhibit the advancement of these deaths.

Also according to the institute, the survival rate - life after diagnosis - for cancer patients is approximately five years and may be modified according to the patient's quality of life.
