A new blood test that can diagnose Down syndrome and other genetic disorders in pregnancy is still held in the country. It can be done now in the 2nd month of pregnancy, the examination will be collected by Brazilian laboratories and sample will be sent to the United States.

To date, collections were confirmed by laboratories Paulista Institute of Gynecology and Obstetrics (IPGO), Albert Einstein hospital and Fleury.

The PanoramaTM, as it is called, is a new test that belongs to a group of other tests that have the general name NIPT (Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing - in Portuguese: Prenatal Testing-Non-Invasive) and analyzed by maternal blood, chromosomal health of the baby at an early stage of pregnancy.

The survey aims to obtain cells of fetal DNA to diagnose chromosomal abnormalities, from 9 weeks gestation, without causing harm to the fetus. The test is done in early pregnancy when some cells of the fetus has passed into the mother's blood. At this stage withdraws a small blood sample from the mother and from there, a comparison is made of copies of chromosomes studied between the fetus, the mother and father. If the baby has three chromosomes in any of the studied pairs (13, 18, 21, X and Y) signals will be evident to the diagnostic conclusion. It is different from other existing tests, such as amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling (CVS), because it is not invasive and get very accurate information of major chromosomal disorders such as Down syndrome (Trisomy 21), Patau syndrome (Trisomy the cromossomo13), Edwards syndrome (Trisomy 18), Klinefelter syndrome and Monosomy X, besides the sex of the fetus.
