The couple of Brazilian scientists Ruth and Victor Nussenzweig, researchers at New York University (NYU), based in the United States since the 60's are back in Brazil, specifically in the Federal University of São Paulo (Unifesp) to develop part of the research which aims to search for malaria vaccines. The project is funded by the SPEC (Excellence Chairs) pilot program Fapesp establishing collaborations between institutions of the state of São Paulo and researchers from abroad.

The researchers will spend three months, for three consecutive years in the country as teachers affiliated with Unifesp. This will form a new team and work in the laboratory of Protein Purification Research Building II University to study the parasite that causes malaria enzyme inhibitors and developing and getting new drugs to fight the disease.

The researchers are associated with teacher-collaborators Unifesp: Beatriz Castilho, Nobuko Yoshida, Mauricio Rodrigues and Sergio Schenkman, Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Parasitology and Reinaldo Solomon's Division of Infectious Diseases, which will cover the whole research process and the participants involved.

For Sergio Schenkman, the coming of researchers contributes to increasing the quality of research and to attract other groups to the country, with the goal of internationalizing Brazilian science.
