About 47 imported drugs to treat various diseases and who depended exclusively international pharmaceutical industry, has secured production in Brazil. For more autonomy of drug production and competitiveness of the country, the government has expanded partnerships between the public and private laboratories, through PDPs (Productive Development Partnerships). Through the Program for Investment in Health Industrial Complex (PROCIs), MS invests in infrastructure and qualification of manpower in 18 of 20 laboratories public official.

The Institute of Drug Technology (Farmanguinhos / Fiocruz) is one of the laboratories working in this program and produces the PDPs antiretrovirals, anti-asthmatics, immunosuppressants, antiparkisoniano, tuberculostatic and anticancer drugs. Based on quantitative general people with these diseases, it is estimated that some 13 million may be helped with the production of drugs through partnerships.

Most of these products are imported into the country and the production of these products will generate savings to the public purse. With the success of the agreements reached at the meeting of Gecis, (Council of Competitiveness of Industrial Health Complex), 20 new partnerships are already accounted for, 55 PDPs for domestic production of 47 drugs, which will mean a saving of £ 2, 5 billion a year to the Ministry of Health

In addition to generating significant savings and reduce dependence on imports of these products, partnerships also bring benefits to the population, because they ensure the supply of essential medicines to the Unified Health System (SUS).

The director Farmanguinhos, Hayne Felipe believes that partnerships have brought major changes and that the institute will be prepared for the demands that arise. In these new directions of the unit, partnerships play a critical role, since, beyond ensuring the income necessary, enable us to new technological developments, and consequently new products for SUS.
