Located in Realengo, the HEAS serves a population of about 1.8 million inhabitants, receiving all residents of West Zone and surrounding areas. The unit is one of 11 hospitals in Brazil chosen by the Ministry of Health to integrate SOS Emergency Program, which aims to reduce the waiting time in the emergency room and the stay of patients in hospitals through the readjustment of the flow units.
