The Museum of Microbiology, Instituto Butantan just deploy MicroToque program, geared for people with partial or total visual impairment. The exhibition includes models of the HIV virus, the bacterium Escherichia coli, the protozoan Trypanosoma cruzi and the fungus Penicillium notatum, all containing captions in Braille and macrocaracteres represented in three-dimensional models.

The initiative, unprecedented, aims to stimulate scientific curiosity and provide opportunity for rapprochement between the scientific culture and people with visual disabilities, through the production of knowledge, research and education.

For the production of the material, the Butantan said the partnership with the Dorina Nowill. The audience visually impaired will have a mockup of the Museum of Microbiology, composed of high-strength materials to the touch and also colored with two contrasting colors in order to facilitate viewing by persons with low vision.

There is also a visit to the Square of Scientists, which houses 11 busts of renowned national and foreign scientists who somehow contributed to the development of microimunologia.

In this space, people with visual disabilities can touch the busts, read their names in Braille and hear a short description of their achievements through audio guides. At the end of the tour, the Butantan Institute presents the visitor with a CD-Remembrance.

<b> Microbiology Museum </ b>

The Museum houses an exhibition of Microbiology long term, by which visitors perform an interactive journey in the invisible world of microorganisms.

Equipment, panels, three-dimensional models of bacteria, viruses and protozoa explain the basics of microbiology and reveal what are called "germs" or microbes.

Interactively, you can manipulate microscopes and observe, for example, live microorganisms in a drop of untreated water. In this same space there are a number of computers featuring movies, animations, interactive activities, among others.
