MA Professionals are trained to diagnose Chagas and Leishmaniasis

The Central Laboratory of Maranhão (Lacen-MA) held from Monday (20) in the capital Sao Luis, a training ParasitológicoSorológico Diagnosis of Chagas' disease, and Serologic of Visceral Leishmaniasis. The action is aimed at health professionals working specifically in the diagnostic industry.

The training will be supporters and speakers, professionals in the Ezequiel Dias Foundation of Minas Gerais (MG-FUNED), an entity reference in the country in production of medicines and serums, public health research, health surveillance, epidemiologic and environmental. Activities will be held in the auditorium of the National Health Foundation (Funasa) until Friday (24).

Chagas disease is caused by the protozoan parasite Trypanosoma cruzi that is transmitted through feces of the barber. The insect is nocturnal and lives in the cracks of the houses of wattle-and-daub, bird nests, tree trunks and under rocks.

Visceral leishmaniasis is a disease caused by the trypanosomatid protozoan Leishmania chagasi. It is transmitted by vector species Lutzomia longipalpis and L. cruzi (small light-colored mosquitoes that live in dark, damp and accumulation of trash).
