Journalists ten Haitian community radios will be trained by the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) to let them know to inform and educate the public about health conditions. The action is part of the Tripartite Cooperation Brazil-Cuba-Haiti to strengthen the health system and epidemiological surveillance in Haiti, established after the earthquake in 2010 destroyed the country.

The workshop, which lasts 14 days, will be coordinated by Channel Health Foundation, in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Population of Haiti. The project also foresees the creation of a network of community radio for joint strategies to combat and prevent disease.

According to the Coordinator of Social Communication of the Health Channel, Ana Cristina Figueira, the goal of this first action is to develop, with the broadcasters, a methodology to communicate about health issues, aligned to the actions of the Ministry of Health and Population of Haiti. She stressed that the concern of the projects developed by the partnership is to be structured. When we leave there or the partnership ends, it is essential that they can move on with their feet.

She noted that community radio stations in Haiti have far-reaching in the country and can be strategic means to educate and inform people about health conditions. In addition to a team of channel Fiocruz, the workshop will also be a representative of the World Association of Community Radios in Brazil (Brazil AMARC), Denise Viola, who will discuss in French an official language of the country, gender issues, and show communication strategies to raise awareness about major diseases that affect the Caribbean country such as cholera, AIDS and malaria.
