Production Line of the drug Tamiflu used to combat H1N1

The Ministry of Health (MOH) has reinforced this Thursday (26), recommending that the antiviral oseltamivir, also called Tamiflu is prescribed in the first 48 hours, without the need for laboratory tests, all patients with symptoms of influenza who live in states where it was recorded high circulation of influenza virus H1N1, as in the southern region of the country.

The guidance is for all people, even those that are not part of the risk group: pregnant women, elderly, indigenous, health professionals and children aged six months and two years.

In other states, however, still apply the recommendations of the Protocol Treatment of Influenza, which recommends that, for groups of people vulnerable to complications, treatment with the drug is started as soon as possible after the first symptoms, without waiting laboratory results or signs of deterioration. In these locations, patients with flu-like illness, which do not belong to risk groups should receive the drug if they display signs of deterioration, such as shortness of breath or persistent fever for more than three days.

The antiviral, which is able to reduce serious and deaths from the disease, is offered in the public, free of charge and with medical supervision, people with flu-like illness. To achieve maximum efficacy, the antiviral should be initiated within 48 hours after the onset of the disease. But even beyond this period, the Ministry of Health indicates the prescription drug.

To reinforce the recommendation was drawn up for a free reproduction cartaz by state and municipal departments. The goal is to help doctors about the conduct of care for patients with symptoms, not only on the cases where it is shown the drug and its dosage according to age of the patient.
