The National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) suspended on Tuesday (10), distribution, dissemination, trade and use of food supplement Oxielite Pro throughout the country. According to the agency, the product, manufactured by unknown company, has the substance Dimethylamylamine (DMAA) in the composition, prohibited use of a stimulant that helps you lose weight and increase athletic performance.

In last Tuesday (3), the DMAA was included in the list of prohibited substances in Brazil, which prevents the import of food supplements containing the substance, even for individuals and for personal consumption. Besides Oxielite Pro, DMAA is found in the composition as dietary supplements and Jack3d Lipo6 Black.

By way of footnote, Anvisa warned that consumption of dietary supplements can cause serious damage to health. Many of them are sold illegally in the country, without having undergone any type of safety assessment.

Some of these products contain ingredients that are unsafe for use in foods, such as stimulants and hormones, according to regulatory agency. The dietary supplements may also contain substances with therapeutic properties, which can not be consumed without medical supervision.

The damage to human health may include toxic effects, especially in the liver, metabolic disorders, cardiovascular damage, nervous system disorders, and in some cases lead to death, the agency warned.

The statement also highlights the strong appeal advertising and expectations for quick results contribute to the indiscriminate use of dietary supplements by people who know about the risks involved in consumption.

In Brazil, food, pharmaceuticals presented in formats such as capsules and tablets, can only be sold after assessed and registered with the ANVISA.
