For faster service in regional hospitals and PSUs, the state of Pernambuco will enhance the use of medicine to treat heart attack. About 600 doctors and 13 nurses in Emergency Care Units (PSUs) and three hospitals will go through qualifying to make the diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction and to treat the patient through the use of thrombolytic medication that unclogs arteries.

The service will be deployed in these units with the help of telemedicine, as a central cardiologists will be available to assist in diagnosis.

According to the coordinator of Cardiology, Department of Health (SES), Orlando Medeiros during the lessons will be reminded how to diagnose cases of infarction, taking into consideration the chest pain and risk groups (elderly, chronic renal failure patients, diabetes, hypertension, smoking). Suspected presence of infarction, an electrocardiogram is done and the exam is sent to the center for analysis. The result will be in at most 20 minutes.

The sooner treatment is started, the less damage to the heart muscle and the greater the chance of survival. This is also a way to prevent sequelae and provide a quality of life for anyone affected by vascular problems, says Medeiros. According to the coordinator, the PSUs and regional hospitals have the thrombolytic agent available for use in cases of myocardial infarction.

Today, two public hospitals, the cardiac hospital and Agamemnon Magalhaes, thrombolytic use, which is an expensive substance. With this new policy, we will expand the possibility of using this drug, which must be applied with up to six hours after the first symptoms. This benefits the work of medical personnel, who may use or catheterization or thrombolytic therapy, according to the patient's profile, improving the prognosis and reducing mortality rates, he adds.

After application of thrombolytic, patients will be referred to hospitals in the rear, in order to continue the treatment. When the patient's condition does not allow the application of the drug, it will also be sent to the referral service to be performed catheterization.

In Pernambuco, circulatory diseases are the leading causes of death, followed by external causes. In the group between 39 and 59 years, 29.6% of deaths are caused by circulatory diseases. The percentage rises to 39.2% among the population after 60 years.
