Medical Congress adopts sustainability actions to reduce environmental impact

The 46th Brazilian Congress of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine this year, held in Salvador (BA) between the 4th and 7th of September, will bring sustainability actions to reduce the impact of the event on the environment.

The focus will be on the reduction of waste produced during the congress and will be sent to the landfill of Salvador. The amount of greenhouse gases emitted will also be assessed. Environmental education activities are designed.

For there to be a reduction in waste going to landfill, there will be selective collection and recycling all waste will be delivered to a local cooperative. For this to happen more efficiently counted with the collaboration of all participants of the event, "says Rafael Aidar, representative of the contractor.

Exhibitors will receive the Manual for events more sustainable, with suggestions and opportunities for social and environmental improvements. Booths will be evaluated and those that best meet the sustainability items, receive a certificate.

"Much of the energy consumption of an event occurring due to the lighting booth and scenarios. You can reduce this consumption. Ideally, choose equipment that uses LED as a lighting element," says Aidar.

The congress is held by the Brazilian Society of Clinical Pathology / Laboratory Medicine.
