A mobile interactive application called Diabetes IQ challenges people to test their knowledge about diabetes and compete with each other, learning about the complexities of the disease.

Designed for free download from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Diabetes Teaching Center and QuantiaMD, a company based in Waltham, the new application is designed to help improve health by making the task of managing diabetes in a interactive gaming experience, bringing it to users Droid, iPad, iPod Touch and iPhone.

The game follows a program format of questions in which players answer multiple choice questions about diabetes and can then compare your answers with those of other players in real time.

The application was made to explore how decisions relating to lifestyle and diet influence in terms of sugar. Their ultimate goal is to connect the theory of managing diabetes to the reality of everyday life.

The interactive tool was developed from material developed over the past decades in the UCSF Diabetes Teaching Center, which has helped thousands of people with all types of diabetes manage their disease.

According to Nolte Kennedy, the application was the next step according to the logic, after the creation of the site with information about the disease, one way to reach a wider audience, including younger generations of diabetics.

The DiabetesIQ is one of the earliest applications of diabetes purely educational and it fills a niche is, however, the only game that helps people learn how to self-manage diabetes - something important to live with this disease.
