A report of the United Nations (UN) shows that infant mortality in Sub-Saharan Africa fell from 12 million in 1990 to 7.6 million in 2010. The document, duvulgado this week, presents the latest estimates of child mortality on the planet made by the Fund of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and World Health Organization (WHO).

According to the data every day, it saves the lives of over 12 000 children compared to 1990. In sub-Saharan Africa, the decline in deaths was 1.2% per year during the decade 1990-2000, to 2.4% between 2000 and 2010.

The Executive Director of UNICEF, Anthony Lake, said the results show that progress can be made, referring, however, that about 21 thousand children die every day from preventable reasons.

Lake called for more investment in poor communities to help save the lives of children more quickly and economically.
