Unicamp researchers have figured out the process of performance of saturated fat in the human body. After five years studying the behavior of mice, scientists at the Laboratory of Medical Clinics of Unicamp to identify, in the brain, the problems caused by saturated fat of animal origin. It causes the death of neurons in the hypothalamic region that controls appetite and energy expenditure, impairing the transmission of information that the agency is satisfied.

The researcher from Unicamp Licio Velloso explained that the loss of neurons in this brain region could be disastrous to undermine the balance between hunger and energy expenditure. In the experiment, the mice gained weight after eating, impulse, far more than they needed.

Now, scientists are conducting CT scans to assess the reflex in humans. The next step is to develop drugs that eliminate the effects of fat in the brain, explains Velloso, who urges caution in consumption of animal fats.
