84 Ministry of Health accredits dental prosthesis laboratories

Altogether, 22 states were awarded with the allocation of U.S. $ 9.4 million per year for making dental prostheses

The Ministry of Health released funds for the accreditation of 84 new Regional Laboratories of Prosthodontics (LRPD) and readjusted the amount transferred to other 32 laboratories deployed throughout the country. In all, 22 states are being awarded the allocation of U.S. $ 9.4 million per year to fund the manufacture of dental prostheses. The production of these 84 new LRPD can reach 4300 monthly prostheses. With these new accreditations, the country now has 1,481 laboratories.

The labs are part of the Smiling Brazil Program, a program of the Federal Government that seeks to provide quality oral health for the population. Until 2003, there was virtually no supply of dental prostheses in SUS. "With the creation of these laboratories, public health service will offer rehabilitation, one of the main needs related to oral health," said a spokesperson.

Funds are transferred directly to the Municipal Health Fund (for municipalities with full management of medium and high complexity) or the State Health Fund (for municipalities without full management), according to their capacity. Ordinance No. 680 establishing the resource was published on Thursday (25) in the Official Gazette (DOU).
