Saint Vincent confirms first death from swine flu It is the fifth case in SP

The victim is a child of 1 year. The other deaths occurred in São José do Rio Preto, Catanduva, Guarujá and the capital

The city of São Vicente, on the coast, recorded the first death from influenza A (H1N1) swine flu. The victim is a child 1 year old who was admitted to a hospital in the city of Santos, according to report released today (26) by the city of São Vicente. It is the fifth case of death from influenza in the state of São Paulo.

However, as it depends notifications forwarded by the municipal Health, the Ministry of Health only confirms, so far, three deaths recorded until April 18. According to the Secretariat, the deaths occurred in the cities of São José do Rio Preto, São Paulo and Catanduva.

The fourth death still not registered by the Ministry of Health, was recorded in Guaruja. A pregnant 19-year-old resident of the city, died yesterday (26) at the Hospital Ana Costa at Santos. She was hospitalized since April 15. On Monday (22), the doctors made an emergency C-section. Baby, 7 months, is in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and the health situation is stable, according to the hospital said through its press office. The city of Guarujá reported that this was the only recorded case of H1N1 in the county.

The Ministry of Health reported that the H1N1 influenza virus is now classified by the World Health Organization (WHO) as flu and therefore only receive notifications of severe cases, characterized as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). According to the agency, there were 18 cases of SRGA for influenza A (H1N1) and 18 seasonal influenza (A or B).

To avoid infection with influenza A (H1N1), the city of São Vicente warned the public to always wash their hands with soap and water, especially after coughing or sneezing, after using the toilet and before meals. The other tip is to also protect the mouth or nose with tissue when sneezing.
