Public hospital starts making organ transplants in children

Those who present clinically stable, after consultation, will do the procedure next week

The State Children's Hospital in Valqueire village in the west of the state capital, made this week, the first consultations in children canditadas the liver and kidney transplants. Four patients will receive organs from living donors. Those who present clinically stable transplant should do next week.

"We know too little, we are working hard on both ends, with transplants and donations," said Rodrigo Sarlo, coordinator of the State Program of Transplantation.

The hospital, which opened this month, is the first unit of the state of Rio de Janeiro exclusive to pediatric care. It is also equipped to do general surgery and orthopedics, as well as cancer treatment.
