After eight years of waiting in line for a kidney transplant, Leandro Broom, 31, was the first patient operated in State Center for Transplantation, opened last Thursday (21) at St. Francis Hospital in Tijuca, in Rio

"I do hemodialysis three times a week, four hours a day since the age of 20. This greatly limits my life. To work is complicated, because only with part-time jobs. Initially able to perform kidney and liver transplants, the new center will soon also offer the pancreas transplant. This is the first unit of the state health network to perform the procedures, previously only done by federal hospitals, university and to the SUS.
