Sobe number of people hospitalized with symptoms of pneumonia in Santa Maria

Rose to 143 the number of people hospitalized in Santa Maria and Porto Alegre, victims of the fire at Kiss Nightclub in the early hours of last Sunday (26). There are about 20 more people who sought health services because they were in the nightclub at the time of tragedy and showed symptoms such as tiredness and breathlessness, typical chemical pneumonitis which can occur up to five days after the accident. These people are hospitalized and under observation framework can evolve to the need for breathing apparatus.

The figures were released by spokesman Force National Health System (SUS), Neio Pereira. He said the number of people in critical condition, with risk of death, remains at 75. They are in a group of 82 people hospitalized in intensive care units (ICUs), and of these, 57 are in Porto Alegre and 25 in Santa Maria. There is no provision for new shipments today of patients to the capital.

According to Pereira, there is also concern with the post-traumatic symptoms, which can reach families as time goes by the tragedy. The stress caused by trauma often takes from 48 to 72 hours to appear. People start to get depressed by grief, what is normal. People who were inside and out, families who begin to have some symptoms, the doctor explained.

Therefore, the Center for Psychosocial Care (CAPS) is meeting in Santa Maria for 24 hours, with teams of psychologists and psychiatrists, including volunteers. Health officials ask if observed the need to follow for people who lost relatives and friends in the tragedy, they must be taken care for the Caps.
