Suspension of sale of 225 health plans takes effect from today

Decision was taken on grounds of noncompliance with the maximum deadlines for appointments, tests and surgeries

Starting this Monday (14), 225 health plans administered by 28 operators are prohibited from being sold throughout Brazil. According to the National Health Agency (ANS), the decision was made because of the failure of maximum deadlines for appointments, tests and surgeries.

The sale of the plans will be suspended until March and may be extended in case of recurrence. Who is the beneficiary of the plans already suspended the service will not hurt, since the suspension is to prevent operators from selling to new policyholders.

Since December 2011, when the monitoring was started, 16 operators are not complying, so repeat the criteria set by the government and are indicated for the opening process with the goal of correcting the abnormalities. The other 12 carriers suspended and repeat offenders should not sign a commitment agreement aimed at reducing the number of complaints.

Of the 38 operators who had plans suspended in October last year, 18 improved results and can now return to market a total of 45 health plans. A complete list of providers and health plans suspended can be accessed on the website of ANS.
