Boy who had stuck his chin on his chest undergoes surgery unprecedented in Rondônia

The boy Luiz Felipe Pereira, age 13, the town of Costa Marques (RO), 700 km from Porto Velho, was discharged from the Base Hospital in the capital after being hospitalized for five months. He lived eight years with his chin almost glued to the chest due to an accident in the home with fire, and underwent a procedure unprecedented in the state.

The boy underwent surgery to implant dermal (dermal matrix of collagen, a material that replaces the human skin, a kind of "artificial skin"), neck and chest, and three reconstructive surgeries. He has yet to return to minor procedures, but now sees a normal life.

"I feel good, I want to go home, played shuttlecock with some friends here in the hospital. I want to go to college and study hard to be an airplane pilot," said the boy.

According to medical plastic surgeon, Flavia Lenzi, responsible for the surgery, the eight years that he was committed to restriction of movement of the body, face, neck and desalinhou column. "The boy will wear vest neck for some time, but recovery was surprising," he says.

The boy's mother, Leonice Estevaneli Pereira, thanked. "As the medical staff, nurses and technicians, in short all who contributed to the recovery of my son, minimizing our suffering," celebrated.

According to the executive director of the HB, Juan Carlos, surgery was highly complex and expensive, about $ 300,000 in materials and five months of hospitalization, but the benefit was much greater than any financial cost.
