The Ministry of Health of São Paulo delivery, on Wednesday (25), 95 unique beds for free treatment of drug addicts. Vacancies shall be available at the Institute Americo Bairral, in Itapira.

The new jobs are part of the project the Secretary of expansion of the hospital for addicts in the Unified Health System (SUS) to Sao Paulo 1200, increasing at 143% capacity in the state.

Of the new beds, 15 will be allocated specifically for chemically dependent pregnant women. With the expansion of the Secretariat estimates that jobs will be added more than 320 patients per year in Bairral, beyond the 426 patient / years already served in the unit by the SUS. For new beds the Department will invest annually an additional $ 3.1 million.

The Spiritist Foundation Americo Bairral invested $ 1.2 million in retirement and the adequacy of the physical space to receive these patients. Work began in November 2011 and completed in May 2012. At least 10 beds for pregnant women are already busy.

Patients in these new beds will have a kind of transitional housing, the recommended treatment of addiction, in its less acute phase. In addition, patients will be offered to professional courses such as agricultural technician or technical guide for eco-tourism, to meet the demand of the region.

With these new beds, the Secretariat will have 587 beds in clinics owned or contracted services for hospitalization of addicts in the state. These places are funded entirely with funds from the state treasury.

In April 2012, the state government opened the first specialized hospital for chemically dependent pregnant women in Sao Bernardo do Campo. With an investment of approximately U.S. $ 700,000 / year, Lacan Psychiatric Hospital has 10 beds for pregnant women with clinical follow-up, psychiatric and obstetric care.
